Ragnar Relay

I decided to blog about something non-automobile related.

Over the weekend, starting at 7:30am Friday, November 19th, 2010 through Saturday, November 20th, 2010 at 4:30pm, 11 other team members and I ran from Port Richey, Florida to Daytona Beach, Florida; A total of 201 miles! To give you an idea of how it works, there’s 12 total team members and 2 Vans; 6 runners per van. Each runner has 3 “legs”. A leg is a part of a race that you run. So my legs were 5.6 miles, 6.5 miles and 6.3 miles for a total of 18.4 miles. Runners #1-6 are in the first van and runners #7-12 are in the second van. I was runner #2 and therefore in the 1st van. There are several exchange points set up throughout the course. At each exchange point, one runner turns the baton over to the next runner. The major exchange points were 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30. Those were the exchange points in which runner #6 (Van 1) turns the baton over to runner #7 (Van 2) and vice versa. The vans were decorated with our team name, Misfits. In between our legs we sat in the van driving to the next exchange point. This is a 24 hour race so we had runners running at night in the dark. During the nighttime runs the vans were allowed to “leap frog” which means we stayed with the runner in view for safety reasons. There was very little sleep. Some of us only getting 45 minutes! I had a blast and my teammates and a blast as well. Keep an eye out on my Photo Gallery. I will be adding photos within the next day or so.

Questions about the new 2011 MINI Cooper S engine

I have had several emails, phone calls and tweets asking about the new engine in the 20111 MINI Cooper S here ate MINI of Tampa Bay and Ferman BMW.

MINI Cooper added Valvetronic to the turbocharged and direct-injected 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine in the 2011 Mini Cooper S and Cooper S Clubman. The result is 12 more horsepower for a total of 184 at 5,500 rpm. Torque holds steady at 177 pound-feet.

Valvetronic is BMW’s electric-motor-driven variable valve lift system. The other main benefits are reduced fuel consumption and emissions.

What I noticed when driving the car is that the power is more linear in delivery, and so far its been a feeling shared by everyone else who has driven one here, so head to Palm Harbor, ask for John C. Crapper and see for yourself 🙂

Cars & Coffee and more, 6am-9am, August 21st, 2010

Join The Tampa bay MINI Motoring Club and others at Sebastian’s Gourmet Cafe, 2727 Ulmerton Road, Feather Sound at 6am. We’ll motor over to that madness they call Cars & Coffee at DuPont Registry, 3051 Te3ch Drive, St. Petersburg.

Those who know the area know it’s not that far a drive so if we can get enough of us committed to be at the Cafe they will open early and you too can find out what one of the best breakfast wraps in the bay tastes like.

There is a link on http://www.facebook.com/MINIofTampaBay to sign up or you can email john.c.crapper@gmail.com for more details.

Yes it’s early!

For several years MINI Motorers have chosen a city in the USA and many have managed to make the drive there with interesting events and fun things to do as they drive.
This year’s destination is Denver and we have several customers heading there however the stop for many of us to strive for in the south east is Atlanta. As you would imagine, those valiant drivers did not refuse when we offered to throw a party in their honor.
When you think of it the MINI legend began in a famous Casino City, so instead of heading to Monte Carlo, head to The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa on August 6th 2010. The party starts poolside at 7pm and is scheduled to go on until 9pm.

There is also the The Pre Hard Rock Send Off Party Send Off Cookout that begins 2.30pm and then we motor to the hard Rock via the Skyway Bridge at 4pm.

More details available from John C. Crapper at isthisjohn@gmail.com or call Malia on 888 234 3586 to register and if you are lucky try to secure a VIP pass for the Hard Rock

BMW Ultimate Service Program Now Available with BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade
Industry-leading offering extends free maintenance to six years/100,000 miles.

A significant part of the security that comes with buying a brand new car is knowing that you will be completely taken care of by your dealership should any issues crop up during that initial ownership period. However, it is rare for an automaker to really step things up and go the extra mile for its customers that is, unless you are talking about BMW and its Ultimate Service Program.

The BMW Ultimate Service Program can be thought of as the final word in peace of mind when it comes to owning and servicing a fine luxury car. The program offers an array of fantastic services and protections aimed at making sure your needs as a BMW owner are met in every possible sense of the word. The Ultimate Service Program goes above and beyond a traditional warranty to create the kind of customer experience that few in the premium car business can claim to duplicate.

The centerpiece of BMWs fantastic offering is the guarantee of absolutely free maintenance for the first four years or 50,000 miles of ownership. The Ultimate Service Program comes standard with every new BMW sold, which means that no matter which vehicle in the companys lineup tickles your fancy, you will be off the hook for regular maintenance. What falls under the auspices of this generous plan? For starters, wear items such as brake pads and discs are replaced at regular intervals, along with windshield wipers, thanks to the companys regularly scheduled dealership inspections that are designed to pinpoint any mechanical issues that need to be addressed under warranty.

Skilled BMW technicians will also take these inspection opportunities to handle any regular fluid replacements, including oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid and even windshield washer fluid. In short, your car will get a thorough going over each and every time it rolls into the inspection bay, meaning you will never have to worry that any aspect of its maintenance has been neglected. On the plus side, if you ever suspect your vehicle might require servicing between its regularly scheduled inspections, all you have to do is drop by your local dealership and you will be welcomed by BMW mechanics and specialists who will work with you to isolate exactly what the problem might be.

Free maintenance is, of course, only one aspect of the BMW Ultimate Service Program. In addition to standard warranty coverage of any vehicle defects within the term listed above, you will also benefit from 24-hour Roadside Assistance. BMWs team of trained professionals are on-call any time of day or night to coordinate the repair, towing, locksmith or even fuel delivery services that you might need to help you get going on your way. This level of roadside assistance is almost like having a BMW service vehicle following you down the highway at all times, loaded up with the tools, parts and expertise that can handle any emergency situation that you might encounter. Topping off the Ultimate Service Program is the BMW Assist Safety and Convenience Plan, which provides concierge service that, just like Roadside Assistance, is available to you around the clock, seven days a week. You can use it to set up restaurant reservations, find an address you are looking for or scout out potential traffic problems or weather issues while planning out your route from behind the wheel. BMWs service agents will even make phone calls for you should you find yourself in an area with no cell phone reception or be victimized by a dead battery.

Perhaps the best aspect of the BMW Ultimate Service Program is the fact that it doesnt have to end after that first four-year/50,000-mile term. BMW now offers the chance for you to extend the maintenance coverage provided by the program for an additional two years or 50,000 miles, which means your car can be protected for as long as six years or 100,000 miles. This type of extended maintenance is unheard of in the automotive industry let alone amongst luxury manufacturers and it indicates just how dedicated BMW is to making sure every mile you spend behind the wheel of your automobile is as trouble free as possible.

The BMW Ultimate Service Program and the BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade are two compelling reasons why it makes so much sense to park a brand new BMW in your driveway.
